As a primary result of having a great deal of experience in the general family law arena, John has been able to achieve and maintain a cordial, well-balanced, less formal and laid-back type practice to ease some of the tension and discomfort that people feel when they enter a law office.
John has counseled and represents (or has represented on a large scale) people and families from all walks of life, but a greater portion of his clientele has been 25 churches and ministries and numerous people referred from those particular church administrators and benevolence committees in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Three of those include the well-known and extremely successful Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church (a nationally televised service with an internationally renown evangelism program), Christ the Rock Community Church (Cooper City), and Calvary Chapel of Ft. Lauderdale (one of the largest churches in America). Other well-known clients include Causeway Lumber Company, Inc., Shepherd Care Ministries, Inc., Robert B. Lecce Numismatics, Inc., First Baptist Church of West Hollywood and New Covenant Presbyterian Church. Smaller ministries include the Good News Church, Pompano Beach Christian Center, Covenant Life Church, Christian Fellowship of Ft. Lauderdale, First Baptist of Sunrise, Faith Deliverance Center, South Palm Community Church, World Ministry Outreach, Operation Rescue, Baptist Bible Fellowship International, Daybreak Ministries and Child Evangelism Fellowship of Dade.
He conceived of and helped to develop statutory law as a result of his appointment to the Florida Adoption Advisory Counsel in 1990 which resulted in F.S. 63 adoption forms and
F.S. 63.054 putative father registration. As early as 1985, his appellate victory found in
Johnson vs. Johnson, 455 So. 2nd 1332 (4th DCA 1985) was the first case in Florida to help define shared parental responsibilities in custody cases the holding of which prevents a custodial parent to change his city or state of residence, without the approval of the other parent.
While attending college, Mr. Nyce earned five varsity letters in wrestling, tennis and golf, wrestled for a nationally ranked college team and he had the best record (10-1) on his tennis team as a senior at the University at Buffalo (competing against Big East schools). He continues to play golf and tennis on a weekly basis. In his Newburgh, New York high school he was a varsity wrestler and he founded and played in a jazz band he called The Blue & Gold Jazz Octet (40’s and 50’s Glen Miller style music) which is still in existence today and where he was a concert trumpet soloist, a commencement address speaker and an award winning public speaker.
Adoption Placement Licensure
In 1981, Mr. Nyce created and established the adoption division of Shepherd Care Ministries, a Christian counseling agency which as of this writing has placed over 3,500 newborns and young children into Christian homes. The agency was the first all-Christian adoption agency approved and licensed in the State of Florida, which incidentally, came after great opposition from the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, the licensing arm of the government. After a 3-year long battle with the Department, he secured an adoption placement license from Tallahassee in 1985 (a first of its kind) and which opened wide the floodgate for countless Christian and likewise private sector adoption agencies and foster homes in Florida. See item at the end of this section.
One of his greatest career challenges involved the legal representation of Operation Rescue South Florida and its’ national founder, Randall Terry. Mr. Nyce was regularly involved with state leadership in the pro-life movement in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. He spearheaded a group of 13 Christian attorneys in the successful legal defense of 84 “rescuers” all pro bono, in criminal court in Palm Beach County in 1989. He also participated in a blockade of an abortuary and numerous demonstrations in the tri-county area. See item at the end of this section.
